General Information

It is with much pleasure that Design Ghana, in collaboration with the School of Creative Arts, University of Education, Winneba is organising this all important conference: International Design Education Conference (iDEC) 2019. It is our firm belief that design education in Afrika needs to be re-adjusted to meet Afrika’s  socio-economic practices and thereby re-tooling our personal and professional ambitions and practices.

Venue
The conference is to be held at the north campus of the University of Education, Winneba. The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) was established in September, 1992 as a University College to provide higher education and foster a systematic advancement of the science and the art of teacher education; and also to train tutors for the Colleges of Education and other tertiary institutions in Ghana. Traditionally known as Simpa, it is a historic fishing port in south Ghana, lying on the south coast, 64km (40miles) from Accra and 140 kilometres east of Cape Coast. The meeting for the conference is located about two kilometers from the city centre with 10 mins drive from numerous hotels.

Getting to Winneba
It is very easy to get to Winneba from Accra. There is no air flights Winneba but from Accra, one can easily board luxurious buses going towards Cape Coast, since Winneba is on the southern corridor route from Lome (Togo) through Accra (Ghana) to Abidjan (Cote D’Ivoire). You can therefore travel from Accra to Winneba by road (1hr 53min) and see how the nature changes from east to west.

From the Kotoka International Airport, you will have to hire a taxi to the city centre to board a bus to Winneba. It will take you 15 minutes to reach the city centre (barring heavy traffic in the city).

This will mean spending the first night in Accra and travel the following morning to Winneba after breakfast. Arrangements have been made for participants to be accommodated at KNUST Guest House in Accra on the first night, after which participants are conveyed from Accra to Winneba through a chartered bus. Participants are therefore being asked to inform the secretariat well advanced for booking to be confirmed at KNUST Guest House.
